# Uploading a PDF Document

You can upload a finished PDF, such as an NDA, contract or agreement, directly into OneSuite and send it for signatures. You don't need to rebuild the document from scratch, and it uses the same signer and field placement flow as documents written in the editor.

**In this guide you'll learn how to:**

- Upload a prebuilt PDF document
- Link the document to a project
- Add signature fields for each party
- Send the document for signature

## Before you start

- The file must be a PDF (`.pdf`). Export documents in other formats as a PDF first.

## How to upload a prebuilt PDF document

You upload a PDF by clicking **Upload a Document** on the Contracts home page and choosing the file.

1. **Go to the Contracts module.** In the left sidebar, click **Contracts** to open the Contracts home page.
2. **Click Upload a Document.** You see this option at the top-right of the screen.
3. **Select a PDF file.** Choose the file you want to upload from your device. It must be a `.pdf`.
4. **Click Upload.** OneSuite loads the document into its field editor.

## How to link the document to a project

Linking a project is optional and groups the document under that project for tracking.

1. **Click the Project selector in the top-right corner.** A dropdown opens with all available projects in your workspace.
2. **Select the project from the list.** The document is now linked and grouped under that project.

## How to add signature fields

You add signature fields by choosing a field on the left and dragging it onto the document.

1. **Choose the field you want to add** from the left side of the screen. Options include **Signature**, **Date**, **Text** and **Checkbox**.
2. **Drag and drop the field onto the right place in the document.** Each field is color-coded by the party it is assigned to.

## How to send the document for signature

After you place all the fields, click **Save** and then **Send** to move to signer selection.

After you click **Send**, OneSuite opens the signer confirmation and email customization screen.

## FAQs

### What file types can I upload to OneSuite Contracts?

You can upload PDF files only. The file must have the `.pdf` extension, so export Word documents or images as a PDF first.

### Do I have to link an uploaded PDF to a project?

No. Linking a project is optional. When you link one, the document is grouped under that project for tracking.

### Which signature fields can I add to an uploaded PDF?

You can add fields such as **Signature**, **Date**, **Text** and **Checkbox**. Each field is color-coded by the party it is assigned to.

### What happens after I click Send?

OneSuite opens the signer confirmation and email customization screen. There you confirm who signs and send the document to them.

### Can I just rebuild the document in the OneSuite editor instead?

You can, but you don't need to. If the PDF is already finished, uploading it uses the same signer and field placement flow, so you skip the rebuild and keep the original layout.
